Meet the Artist

My name is Suzanne Buckingham-Jarvis. I grew up in the country, north of Toronto, with horses and lots of pets.

I am a mainly self taught artist, however my life has always been immersed in the art world. Our family business of a fine art gallery, meant art had a huge influence on my life.

Drawing animals and doing art as a child was always enjoyable. Art classes is where I excelled and started taking a serious interest in creating art. Throughout my high school years was where I learned I wanted and needed a creative outlet.

I contemplated pursuing a career as an artist, however I opted for business college instead with the intention of helping to run the family art business.  After college my life went in another direction after starting a family.

Once my children got older, this afforded me the time to get back to art and concentrate on painting. In 2018, I started painting large, bold and colourful landscapes in acrylic and then switched to oil paint.

In 2020, I decided to paint my dog in a realistic style with all the details. I fell in love with the process and the outcome. I decided to switch my style and from there I moved into painting pets and doing commissions. It was a natural progression for me and an extension of my connection with animals.

“I have a great love of all animals and creating an animal painting is a very pleasurable and intuitive experience. Capturing the personality and uniqueness of each pet is what my pet paintings are based on.”
